Inexpensive and Effective. Great picture day and night.
This is my fifth camera. Don’t let the wireless fool you. The network connection is wireless, but you’ll still need to run power. Since these will most likely be mounted on the exterior walls of your home, you’ll want to fish that wire inside the wall and have the other end pop out near an AC outlet. Your exterior walls are insulated. You’ll need a set of fiberglass rods to push through the insulation. My exterior walls are stucco, so that also means stucco patch. I found it easier to fill the hole in the stucco with caulk first, and apply stucco patch a few weeks later once the caulk had fully cured. This makes a clean, professional, installation that nearly is wireless. There is only a short piece of thin white wire that runs straight into the wall just behind the camera. The more professional your install appears not only looks nicer, but makes the would be malintented individual(s) wonder just how much you spent on this system. What other surprises are behind this? I can tell you in my case, a LOT! I started with the inexpensive stuff, beefing up the door and window locks first. I even put up fake cameras as a deterrent, and put security decals on every door and window. Did that work? The fake cameras did not. Someone tried to break in, twice actually. The beefed up locks stopped one, and the alarm system stopped the next. Correction, three times! I chased after one! The police caught him shortly thereafter. But without cameras, there was no footage. The police needed the video from the fake cameras. Sorry, not available. That’s when we decided we need real ones. Something that stores everything offsite in it’s own cloud backup. Something that runs 24×7, constantly recording. Something that will capture video day and night. Something simple enough for a do-it-yourself install, and lastly would not break the bank, or make us rob one to afford it. The ability to monitor remotely via smart phone is a big bonus too. Should we be notified of an alarm, we can pull up the cameras and see exactly what happened. These Zmodo camera’s fill every requirement. Since installing the first few about a year ago, no one has bothered us. That doesn’t mean we will no longer be vigilant. If there are areas we cannot see, we still want to be sure they are covered. Should someone attempt to disable a camera, we want to be sure another camera captures it. The fact that we continue to buy more and expand this system proves it meets all our needs. We would, and have, purchased again and again. You don’t have to max out a credit card and do it all at once. Buy one or two. I’m sure you’ll be more than satisfied. You can always expand your system later as time and funds permit. Oh, and don’t waste your money on the fake ones. They obviously don’t even work as a deterrent! Just get the real thing, and have real protection. The next time the police ask for video, it’ll be on my screen before they even arrive, and I’ll give them a link where they can download it. I’ll even capture a snapshot or two.

A worthy upgrade to the Zmodo 720p outdoor camera
As a current Zmodo user this unit was very fast and easy to get up and running, click the add device button in the app, enter the Wi-Fi password and hold the QR code in front of the camera and the software does the rest. The directions in the box are sparse, but not needed if you already have the app installed as the app provides the same prompts. I already have a existing Zmodo NVR system with wired cameras and the wireless units get added to the NVR with no extra intervention on the part of the user for added convenience.Coming from the previous generation 720p camera this is an upgrade in every way, better resolution, field of view, and more even IR lighting with less spotlighting which helps make the added field of view useful in low light. The construction feels solid and has standard quarter inch mounting holes in the top and bottom and comes with an articulated mount for installation although I mount mine to a cheap tripod so I can move it around depending on whether I’m monitoring for visitors or guarding my Halloween or Christmas decorations from neighborhood kids. My pervious camera is still functioning after years in the elements and I this one feels better made and should give many years of service. The Zmodo app is user friendly and displays alerts sorted by camera for all the motion detection events, it is reliable enough to tell you when a package arrives on your porch (which has been great in 2020). I have not tried the Zmodo cloud, as I have an offline NVR, but the recorded video is easily accessed from the app and the time slide is zoomable if you’re searching for a specific time. Exporting video clips and stills is easy and they show up in the camera roll on your phone for sharing.I’ve been very impressed with my Zmodo products as offering a great value and long-lasting support. My entire NVR system cost less than a single PoE camera from the other brand I was looking at and is still supported five years later with the newest cameras.

Do Not Invest Your Money in Zmodo
I’ve used Zmodo cameras for years and they’ve had good software and hardware. Over the last few years they have not updated their software and the hardware has gotten cheaper. They no longer support their Windows Zviewer app that allowed multiple camera views. Now you have to logon to a website and only view one camera at a time. Who does that? Also the Apple and Android apps allow you to view only 4 cameras at once without scrolling screens and you can’t order them the way you want. As for the hardware it’s gotten worse. They only offer one outdoor camera and no PTZ one. It seems they only concentrate on indoor cameras. The newer outdoor camera only comes in white, the night vision is horrible compared to the old ones, and the lens has less magnification. If you try to mount it on a vertical wall you can’t because the bracket is to short (see the attached pic). Also it only supports 2.4GHz. The only plus is it’s 1080p. Since they stopped supporting the Windows Zviewer app you can no longer change the picture quality, displayed name, time display, masking, maintenance reboot schedule, reboot or network settings. If you don’t buy their icloud storage with human detection alerts will be constant from every bug, snowflake, wind, and rain. Other times I could have a vehicle come down my driveway (which is a quarter mile from the road) and not get an alert. When it does record a motion event the quality is 480p making everything hard to recognize.
