You can disable the lock!
When we needed to replace our 8-year-old countertop microwave, we bought another microwave with a good brand name. We discovered that, as of 2024, all countertop microwaves come with a locking mechanism. Now when our food or beverage was finished, we could not simply open the door. The door was locked. Now we had to push the “Unlock” button or hold the STOP button for 3 seconds.I read the manual, looked online, and called customer service to disable the lock but found that SHARP has the only models that allow you to disable the lock until you want to enable it again. All other brands only allow you to disengage the lock until the next time you use it. We took the other one back and got this Sharp microwave. Right on the door are instructions for disabling and re-enabling the lock and I disabled the lock immediately.It’s so nice to have a microwave that doesn’t lock you out!

A great improvement over the ‘older version’ SMC1131CB. * Easier to read panel. . improved functions
I replaced my perfectly good SMC1131CB with this SMC1161KB for the following reasons.A great improvement over the same size microwave SHARP SMC1131CB.PROS:The panel numbers are easier to read in subdued light. The older version was very difficult to read.The display is BRIGHT. Note-It can even be turned OFF by pressing the stop after cooking and the door is closed. An apparent undocumented feature I came across.Some function improvements:Two stage cooking.Unlike the old version power level can be changed at any time while cooking.Push the start button ONCE= 30 seconds. Each push after that adds 30 seconds. The old 30 second button is gone.Slightly larger carousel.Improved carousel ‘seating’. Previous version was difficult to put glass back in correctly.Consult user manual to see all the added and improved features. You will likely purchase this model.IFFY CON:The interior is dark grey. great to not ‘show’ splatters but it make viewing the food more difficult to see even though the light is on during cooking.

The Sharp SMC1161KB 1.1 cu ft countertop microwave is fast heating and quiet
The Sharp SMC1161KB 1.1 cu ft countertop microwave is very good, providing fast heating and even cooking. I find mine is fairly quiet, without the buzz and vibration I have experienced with others in the past. The only complaint I have to this point is that the display is intensely bright white. I went so far as to cover it with a gray plastic film to make it dimmer.

I managed to engage the oven after plugging in. The child safety door lock engaged. Instructions are shipped INSIDE oven. Sat herePondering next move until it disengaged.I do like it!

Good Solid Microwave
Purchased this maybe under a month ago as a replacement for our slightly smaller unit that was almost 10 years old and finally overheated and broke.This one was a little bit bigger, which I like, so I can fit a full size plate in it without having to tilt as I was kind of restricted to the microwave shelf space in the kitchen.I like the black and silver type finish however, I do wish it had an actual handle so you don’t have to just push the button.This unit works a lot better than my old one and seems to heat things in around half the time so I would recommend when you first get it slightly undercook an experiment first until you get used to how long it takes.So far, so good!Definitely a nice unit at a reasonable price. Most importantly it fit the spot I was trying to fit it in, and it’s large enough that you can put a full size regular plate to reheat without having to tilt it.I also synchronized the clock to match the stove clock, so they’re both the same and change within a second apart.

This microwave is HUGE! Great for our camp store. Heads up: you’ll need to do a series of button presses to eliminate the door lock feature every time the power goes out.

Very satisfied with this Sharp countertop microwave oven. Cooks items quickly. Very quiet. Ample room inside of oven. Great price. Only negative I have is the interior light. It’s very dim, especially with dark interior walls.
