This 500 GB external hard drive is a steal for $28
Upon receiving the external hard drive, I turned off my internet connection on my test computer, disconnected my ethernet, just in case the drive was flooded with malware, then connected it via the supplied USB cable. The drive comes formatted with exFAT, and is suitable for Windows, Mac, or Linux. I formatted the drive to NTFS for Windows, then encrypted the drive using BitLocker, which is available in Windows 10 Pro. The 465 GB Drive is advertised at 500 GB. But hard drive manufacturers use special software for the drive itself, and that software is called overhead. This is why hard drives are not 500 GB out of the box. Different manufacturers use different types of software that takes up a various amounts of space on the drive. If you’re not familiar with Drive technology, you can be easily deceived and return the drive thinking the size is incorrect. But the majority of 500 GB drives are actually 465 GB out of the box. As time goes by, I will update this review in case there’s a failure. But as it stands now I’m giving it five stars. The drive is manufactured in China.

It is ok, however, I do not like the cable. It looks like a simple usb to usb but the connection to the hard drive is different. This making it a little extra to find another cable. It’s not like I could swap a usb C for another one at a store.

Huge storage! My laptop crashed and wasn’t fixable so I had to save everything into storage!

500 gigs for only a few dollars . Worth it . I’m using it for steam games . They download slow on external hard drives which I noticed but I figured out how to make them go faster . Plugged it up and the memory instantly popped up and I got to using it . Worth it

Solid drive but usbc connector should be included
I bought this drive simply to backup my computer and then store it in my fireproof safe. So, I do not expect heavy usage from this drive. However, after receiving it I am very impressed with its build quality and performance. It’s significantly faster than my other big name portable drive, although that drive is 4 tb as opposed to 750 mb for this drive. Nevertheless, it has pretty impressive speed. I use a McBook Air and was wondering what adapter would be needed as stated in the product description. The answer is that my McBook has only usbc and hdmi ports, while this drive is standard usbc. So, you need either a usb to usbc adapter or simply a hub that has a usb port. I reformatted the drive for Apple which was simple using disk utility. After doing so the drive worked properly and quite quickly. I also used disk utility to test the integrity of the drive and it passed all tests. Overall, this is a great little drive for the money. It’s well built and has solid performance. I still intend to use it only as a backup because i have other larger drives for general use. However, I see no reason why this couldn’t be used for a main drive if you wanted to use it that way. I am deducting 1 point because I would prefer the drive to have usbc connections at both ends since I like to swap out shorter cables for longer ones for routing on my desk, and usbc is a more common connection than what currently plugs into the unit, but some people prefer the shorter cable and if you do, it’s a decent setup for that. However, I believe at least the usb to usbc connector should be included since they are very inexpensive and would make the unit totally universal.
