A heavy duty, general purpose drill.
Marita drills are a class act for everything except extremely hard, heavy jobs, e.g., driving a reamer into steel or thick aluminum plate. (I have an 110V powered drill motor with a handle for 2-handed jobs which would be a better choice for that kind of abuse. The battery (18volt) Makita took it for about an hour before the heat and constant max torque damaged the reduction gear. I bought another as a replacement!)

Great tool, great brand
My recommendation is to pick a brand and stick with it so all of your batteries are interchangeable.I like Makita brand and have several of their battery operated tools. They are reliable and last a long time (none of mine have ever broke down after years of use).Highly recommend Makita for anyone who wants quality tools that will last a lifetime.-A Handy Man

Nice purchase 👌
Second time re-ordered, right items in the brown box.Once I opened it right item, correct model number.Looks brand new 👌 ✨️Make sure you check the correct model. Because two days ago same item came in the box, but different model in the original box. So do not trust original box. Check the model number!

Shipped review
I have one and enjoy it. This drill is a Christmas gift for son-in-law.The box was delivered on the gate in the rain. There was not a shipping box just the factory my package which was wet in just a few minutes before got to it. If they had added a package fee, I would gladly pay. Damaged box for Christmas gift is not a good idea.

Makita quality
It is a Makita tool. It just works. It replaced an old Makita XPH06 drill which broke the gearbox. It was a logical choice because it uses the same LXT batteries as the old one. I just wish that a great manufacturer like Makita would not manufacture everything in China.

Can’t change the mode, stuck on ‘drill’. Correction, you can change it, with pliers..
I can see why so many ‘reburbished’ on sale, why so many were returned. Can’t change the mode between drill, screw, or hammer drill. Mine is stuck in the drill mode which I mainly use anyway. But no more ‘refurbished’ tools for me. Maybe Amazon should have a note about why it’s refurbished.Ok, correction here. Mine will change, but I had to use Channelock pliers, roll it back and forth several times, way too stiff detent for most people, and I have a pretty strong grip. After I used the pliers and rolled the adjustment back and forth, I can turn it with my hands. Guessing most people would be afraid to use pliers and put marks on the drill. I’m ok with it now.

A Workhorse
I purchased this drill to replace an older Makita BHP454 that finally wore out. The drill is significantly lighter and smaller than the BHP454, but performs equally well, in my opinion. During a two-day construction project that included building a 20×26 foot deck with an attached gazebo, I was able to test all aspects of this tool and it passed with flying colors. Driving 3″ deck screws was generally no problem, although I found in some cases I had to switch to hammer drill (louder) mode when I maxed out the clutch in the screw driving mode at the higher speed setting. The drill was used constantly during deck laying, and I’m guessing the 2 amp/hr battery lasted 45-60 minutes. Given the fast charge time, we were never without a fully charged battery. The drill also did well drilling long pilot holes for 8-12 inch timber-lock screws, and was able to easily drive the screws using hammer mode. For general drilling, the chuck ran true and I could imagine using it for cabinet work instead of my beloved Festool CXS. There were no problems switching between modes, nor did I have any issues with the forward-reverse slide switch. My only ding is there was no bit holder included, so I purchased one on Amazon (MAK4192762) and it fit perfectly on the side opposite the belt hook. I think this drill would work fine for most people unless you are attempting very fine scale work in close quarters (that’s why I have the CXS) or very large construction projects. It is light, powerful, maneuverable, and didn’t weigh down my tool belt as I climbed up and down ladders or over rafters all day long.

Awesome power in a smaller form factor
This replaced a 20 year old brushed Makita that had a front bearing start to go, and I couldn’t get the chuck off.Wow! What a torque upgrade compared to the brushed models. This is a powerhouse whether drilling or driving fasteners this has real torque.A+ and worth the upgrade from the brushed version, plus it is slightly smaller for getting into tight areas.
