Best Samsung phone you can buy (SM-S931B/DS)
Best smartphone I’ve ever bought.First of all, this is the factory unlocked dual sim model, meaning you can use it anywhere in the world. It is not locked into any carrier’s network, and it has 2 nano sim slots and 2 e-sim slots (you can use a max of two at a time). FYI: I can verify that this phone works on the T-Mobile network with T-Mobile sim cards in the USA, as well as many other Telecom networks in many other countries.Secondly, this is one of the first phones Samsung has ever made with SEVEN years of software updates. This means if you buy this phone now in 2025, it will be supported with software and security updates into 2032. Incredible.Third, ALL Samsung S25 phones come with 12GB of RAM. This is the first series to do this. The dual sim model of this phone one generation previously (S24) only came with 8GB of RAM. The difference between 8 and 12 gigs of RAM is massive, because during normal use, it is not difficult to use 8GB of RAM. And once you hit that ceiling, your apps stop working in the background, and when you switch back to them, they refresh themselves. Say goodbye to that youtube video playing in the background. 12GB is enough to prevent this problem under normal use. It is hard to overstate how big of a difference that little 4GB extra makes.Fourth: Perfect size. I have used Samsung phones bigger than this, and smaller than this. Smaller means the keyboard is too small, you are squinting to see things, etc. Bigger means your hand gets sore holding it in one hand, it feels massive in your pocket, etc. This exact size is perfect. Also, the weight is perfect. Bigger phones are heavier. This one is just light enough.Fifth: It is Samsung’s flagship phone series. This means top of the line features, easy to find information online, easy to find accessories, etc. You can buy a cheaper model (I have done this before), but you pay for it with worse features, harder-to-find information online, harder-to-find accessories, slower load times, heavier build materials, inability to share power wirelessly, less supported cellular bands, and so on. Don’t cheap out on a device you may use hours a day for the next 3-7 years.Sixth: Good camera .Seven: Not Apple. Apple products are VERY walled-garden. Meaning, everything is propietary, you can’t install apps they don’t have in their Apple store, etc. With Samsung phones, they run on Android software, which is Linux-based and allows SUBSTANTIALLY more freedom. And they are less expensive phones. Not because they are worse, but because Apple makes people pay a premium. Avoid Apple is my advice. Once you get sucked in it’s harder to switch.Eight: Excellent new features on the phone, including battery protection which you can enable which stops your battery from charging past 80%. This avoids a lot of the damage that normally occurs when people charge their batteries to 100% over time. Also, an imporoved Eye Comfort setting you can enable (limits harmful and disruptive blue light). Save your eyes. Set it to maximum is my advice.Nine: Flat screen (no curved edged screen like on some previous Samsung models). This ensures it is much harder to damage your screen, and it is much easier to find screen protectors that will stay on.Ten: Massive assortment of cellular bands supported, including a large assortment of 5G bands (you can turn off 5G if you want to save battery power or are concerned about health issues).Eleven: Good battery life.Downsides:-As has been the case for many years with both Samsung and Apple, it is still not possible to charge your phone with a wired charger and listen to wired headphones at the same time. Wish they would add a second USB-C port.-Also as has been the case for many years with all major smartphone manufacturers, the battery is sealed. You can still replace it, but it’s not as easy as popping it out in 2 seconds.-Annoying “Gemini” button in the context menu next to the “paste” menu item. Really hope they remove this in a future software update.Pro-tip:When setting up a new phone, spend a few days turning off the useless or bad features you don’t need. These phones are highly customizable. And always turn off settings like ad personalization. If you are upgrading from another Samsung phone, use the Samsung “Smart Switch” app to move over your old apps and pictures, etc. to your new phone. Conclusion:The Samsung Galaxy S25 is the best smartphone on the market as of May, 2025. And specifically, the factory unlocked SM-S931B/DS is the best model of that phone that you can buy. (Note that “DS” stands for “Dual Sim”). It is the best phone I have ever bought.
