It’s Consumer Reports. Of course it’s good
I didn’t buy a subscription to CR, but I buy different issues that appeal to me because of their feature products. But by the issue or by subscription CR gives a leg up on many of the products we all need and gives solid and dependable information based on their own testing. I work as an Internet Service Provider and so I was interested in what this issue had to say about privacy, and found it credible and informative, reaffirming risks I was aware of and informing me of some I wasn’t. Much better than the online reviews out there, often skewed with bogus postings or based on irrelevant biases, Consumer Reports remains a solid provider of information on the things we buy.

    Ignore the Opionbots
It is the independence of Consumer Reports that has made them the leading source of information on pricing, quality, and performance of consumer products for 60 years. Their ratings cannot be quoted by manufacturers in advertisments. They purchase the products they evaluate on the open market, rather than testing demo models provided by vendors. Internet sources like CNET provide valuable reviews and information well worth considering, but Consumer Reports still holds the top spot for unbiased comparisons. The Kindle version is to me a step better than the print version, and the price is much better.

It’s a great magazine, but I rarely actually read it.
Good magazine, but I am likely wasting my money because I rarely read it.

    Nice Magazine
I get this in digital form on my kindle. It is always interesting every month. It is great for using as research when buy expensive products. They do a good job breaking down the pro and con of products. There also interesting articles on things like, cable television, healthcare etc. My husband really enjoys this magazine too.

    I LOVE my Kindle Fire
Contrary to an other’s review, I think that this product is very easy to read on my Kindle Fire and I see no blurriness at all. And, $2.00 per magazine is a very small price to pay for convenience of use and NO paper trail to contend with; no garbage or recycling. Can read anyplace, any time, even in the dark. I think CR is a great magazine. It keeps me informed on what’s out there, what’s good and what’s bad.

It’s just OK on the 7″ Fire
I bought one copy to see how I liked magazines on my 7″ Fire (1st generation). Viewing the whole page, it’s nice and colorful with easy to read article titles. Lots of tables (CR’s standard for comparing features, prices, reliability, etc. between brands) often can not be viewed completely on the screen when zoomed in. I’m hoping my 9″ Fire HD will remedy that. Other than the zooming issue, print is clear and crisp and photos are even better than the paper version. Until I get my 9″ (it’s on my Christmas list), I will read from the 7″ but for viewing the tables, nothing beats a full size monitor or computer screen. I can’t confirm that buying a yearly subscription allows access to the magazine on my Fire AND the online site but I can’t imagine why it wouldn’t at $29-$30. Consumer Reports has lots of competition for reviews, even here on Amazon. The one thing CR has going for it, though, is the lack of bias. Most other review sites are impacted by ads or just random comments from consumers. CR tries to apply the scientific method when testing products. However, that by the very nature of time, is why CR’s reviews are frequently for products that are no longer available. Products are revised and changed when the company knows of a problem that is going to be published as soon as it is financially viable so maybe CR works before we even know of it. Lastly, CR is entertaining. It’s just not the last word on products and can still be influenced by opinions. It remains today an industry standard. Just look to view the classic tables on a larger screen that 7″ or buy a paper copy.

    Consumer reports
The products I was doing research on were reviewed in a few of the issues so it was worth the subscription fee. I felt there was value for the price. but I didn’t renew because I’m too busy to take advantage of all the information that consumer reports provides.
